About

The goal of biblical scholarship is to bring people closer to God, but how can it do so when it remains inaccessible?

This question is at the heart of everything we do. Inspired by a career in biblical scholarship and a life-long passion for Bible translation, Elizabeth Robar founded Cambridge Digital Bible Research in 2020 in Cambridge, UK. By bringing together experts in Bible translation, academic biblical and theological studies, and digital humanities, CDBR aims to free biblical scholarship from its box. CDBR exists to serve interpreters and translators of the Bible by bringing them into robust discussion with the best of biblical scholarship and equipping them to hear the message of Scripture.

Our Story

Elizabeth grew up wanting to be a Bible translator. God sent her into academics instead. Now she knows why: the world of Bible translation had a need for biblical scholars with a foot in multiple words: scholarship, Bible translation, digital humanities, business and teaching.

She founded Cambridge Digital Bible Research in 2020 in Cambridge, UK to start building the kind of team that could begin bridging the gap between splendidly isolated biblical scholarship and those translators and other interpreters who need the results.

By bringing together experts in Bible translation, academic biblical and theological studies, and digital humanities, CDBR aims to free biblical scholarship from its box. We serve interpreters and translators of the Bible by bringing them into robust discussion with the best of biblical scholarship and equipping them to hear the message of Scripture.
